Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden
Salvatore Scarpitta: Traveler
The career of Salvatore Scarpitta stretched from the avant-garde of postwar Rome to dirt speedways in rural Maryland and Pennsylvania. Explore his journey at the Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden with Salvatore Scarpitta: Traveler, which displays 19 of his works, including the only two examples of Scarpitta’s full-size racecars outside Europe. This adventurous, trail-blazing artist’s work will be on view until January 11, 2015.
To celebrate the opening of the exhibit, the Hirshhorn will hold an opening event on July 17 from 7:30 – 10:30 p.m. Admission is free, with food and beverages available for purchase. Enjoy an evening of viewing and discussing art at the museum’s beautiful outdoor plaza.
